This past week was insanely busy and I ramped up my social activity. Most of the folks were very supportive after I explained that, "No- I can not partake in that amazing looking mango cake that is soft and fluffy. I am doing this weight loss blog and I am really committed". But man- was it hard to pass it all up. I mean, Prosecco, crackers with delicious cheeses, fruit, hand crafted candies, ugh! But I made it through with only allowing one alcoholic drink. A Grey Goose and water with muddled lime. I could have done worse in choice of drink but it was not the sugars alone that I was concerned about...check it out...
Alcohol actually inhibits your bodies ability to metabolize fat. Did you hear me? Let me run that by you one more time...alcohol actually inhibits your bodies ability to metabolize fat. So if you are trying to lose FAT (not muscle) don't drink. And of you do, try not to drink after you have had a fatty meal. Otherwise, all of the fat will be sticking around. *note- each gram of fat has 9 calories.
Binge day was fabulous- at first. I enjoyed all the best Super Bowl foods: nachos with chili and cheese goop, chips and guacamole, lemon chiffon cake, tiramisu, and teriyaki sliders. All after a quiet French Toast breakfast at Chanterelle- one of my favorite local places in Edmonds for breakfast. Just thinking back on that day makes my stomach get in knots now. I felt slow, tired, and just blah. I also noticed that on Monday morning my hands were sore again. I have arthritis in my hands and apparently there seems to be something to this whole dairy and gluten can cause inflammation idea. Who knew? *note- if you have chronic pain in your body, may I suggest taking out diary for a week and see what happens.
BTW- just because I was busy doesn't mean that I didn't have difficult moments- I did. I got to spend some time today with a raw food friend of mine today and he shared with me something that will stay with me for some time. He said that while he was on his own weight loss journey, that he would think what a pain in the rear it was to juice and prepare raw food. But he was also very present to how vibrant he felt when he was eating raw and really fueling his body. It was that which he was committed to.
